Routing Multiple Traffic Matrices on an IP/MPLS Network

چکیده

Internet Service Providers wish to optimise the usage of their IP/MPLS network and minimise the congestion caused by traffic demands exceeding the capacity of specific links in their network. When they have at hand multiple future scenarios or predictions of the traffic matrices in their network, in the current state of the art we either reconfigure the weight setting for each individual traffic matrix or configure the best possible weight setting for the set of traffic matrices given. The weight setting problem for multiple traffic matrices consists in optimising the routing of different traffic matrices by configuring the network with appropriate weight settings. When the network is configured with one weight setting for all the traffic matrices considered, we show that there are still potentially congested links. When this situation arises, we recommend the network engineer to use at least two weight settings to configure the network to avoid congestion. For this purpose, we introduce models and properties concerning weight settings and traffic matrices. I am also thankful to Prof István Maros for undertaking my supervision after my move to Departement of Computing, Imperial College London. Also, I appreciate the help of the ECLPS team for the constant technical support while developping the code and for providing the Metric Optimisation library from Eremin [3] without which I would have been incredibly slowed down. Finally, I thank my wife, Petra, for all her support throughout my work.

A New Traffic Engineering Approach for IP Networks

MPLS has received considerable attention as a protocol for transporting IP packets while providing traffic engineering. It requires label distribution, which represents a significant overhead when processing connectionless traffic. This paper describes a new protocol called subIP which efficiently provides connectionless service to IP traffic while remaining the simplicity of MPLS packet forwar...

An Offline Hybrid IGP/MPLS Traffic Engineering Approach under LSP Constraints

MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) enhances the possibility to engineer the traffic on IP networks by allowing explicit routes. Though IGP (Interior Gateway Protocol) routing has proven its scalability and reliability, effective traffic engineering (TE) has been difficult to achieve in public IP networks, because of the limited functional capabilities of conventional IP technologies. Without...

On the Scalability-Performance Tradeoffs in MPLS and IP Routing

MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) has recently emerged to facilitate the engineering of network traffic. This can be achieved by directing packet flows over paths that satisfy multiple requirements. MPLS has been regarded as an enhancement to traditional IP routing, which has the following problems: (1) all packets with the same IP destination address have to follow the same path through th...

Online Traffic Engineering Using A Hybrid IGP+MPLS Routing Approach

The dualism of IGP and MPLS routing has raised a debate separating the IP community into divergent groups expressing different opinions concerning how the future Internet will be engineered. This paper presents an on-line traffic engineering model which uses a hybrid IGP+MPLS routing approach to achieve efficient routing of flows in IP networks. The approach referred to as Hybrid assumes a netw...
